This aerator works just fine. It’s a little tall, so I couldn’t cover it up with gravel, which I would have preferred. Because of this, I think I like the airstones better.
However, this one was good for me because it came with everything I needed. When you buy the airstones, you normally have to buy a few things separately to make it work (the tubing, the airpump). I wouldn’t have known what to buy if I had done that.
This one would probably work better with smaller tanks. I would recommend up to ten gallons.  Read more...

…if you only use one of the two outputs(like I do), put a piece of hose onto the unused outlet - it will muffle the noise it makes[I don't know why they don't tell you this in the pump instructions!]. If both outlets have hoses on them, whether they are in the water or not, this will be a quiet air pump. Having two outputs is great, you could easily feed two 30 gal tanks with this, and it seems like this could handle a 100 gal tank.  Read more...

I have had this for a couple of months now, and so far so good. I haven’t had any pump problems, but for those who need to a new one here is the site.

I would check the impeller before ordering a new pump. Sometimes they get gunked up and need to be cleaned. My only complaint is that the system stays hotter than I would like. I live in Florida and the room is usually 77F, while the tank stays at 81F. My fish don’t seem to be bothered, but I keep my bigger tank at 78F and would prefer to do the same with this.

Customer Review: Staying Afloat
I just started on my second filter after the first malfunctioned. Discussion with a pet store employee revealed that the water level in the aquarium must be above the impeller inside the filter and thus close to or touching the part of the filter that sits above the aquarium. So you should definitely unplug the filter when changing water and make sure you refill it close to the top. If the filter is allowed to run when the water level is low the motor will burn out. Also Marineland sent the replacement filter to me for free two days after I called them. Their number is on the instruction sheet that comes with the aquarium.  Read more...
